I would like to make a small amendment to my description of the original video I posted. I incorrectly stated that the Harkonnen Mentat was the same one in the 1984 movie by Frank Herbert. The Harkonnen Mentat in the Movie goes by the name Piter de Vries and is played Brad Dourif in the movie. The mentat here goes by the name Hay De Vries and is played by Robert Carin. They spent a great deal of time in makeup to make him look the same, to the point that it had me completely bamboozled. You can kind of notice the difference in their mannerisms, with Mentat Hayt being slightly more flamboyant and delightfully evil in takes.

The Harkonnen Campaign is a weird one for me. Whilst I consider it harder than the Atrides (You face greater resistance and there seems to be a far greater abundance of Worms), The harkonnen faction themselves I consider stronger to make up for this. The Devastator tank, whilst slow, is insanely tough with a devastating attack. Whilst its too slow to effectively run over infantry, their attack is strong enough to deal with infantry. The biggest drawback is their ability to self-destruct that can be exploited by deviators to overtake the tank and then self-destruct in your ranks. Fortunately, the AI is incapable of pulling off such functions.

Other than this the Harkonnen have access to the death hand missile. Whilst I don’t consider it particularly useful, able to drop a missile which takes out a building every now and then is a nice addition.

In addition, the Harkonnen have the best combat tanks. Whilst they are the slowest, they are also the strongest. In the PlayStation version at least, there is so much slowdown in the later missions that trying to do any kind of complex tactics or manoeuvres is, if not insanely difficult than unnecessarily time consuming. As such I tend to prefer raw strength over manoeuvrability, hence Harkonnen being my favourite faction.
