Pyramid Magic - Round 1
Quick little video showing the first round of this Japanese only game for the Sega Genesis (called the Mega Drive in Japan and Europe), released through their Japanese exclusive online service for that console, Sega Meganet (this service doesn't exist anymore, of course). It's a puzzle game, not the first one I'd suggest you to play if you're new to the genre, because it's kind of hard. The objet of the game is to remove the mummy from the exit in order to go to the next room. To do that, you need to open the green treasure chest containing a parchment which goes automatically to the mummy. To open the green chest, you need a green key hidden inside a red treasure chest. To open the red chest, you need the red key, hidden inside a brown box. You need to do this in the right order, using the grey stone blocks to get where you need to go. These blocks can be used to form stairs. You can pick them up, kick them, or destroy them. You can't crawl normally, in order to go in places where you need to crawl, pick one block and your character will transport it on his back, then go to the place where you need to crawl, and continue with the block on your back. The block will fall, but your character will stay in that bent position, allowing you to pass. It's possible to get stuck in a level, the game will not indicate it to you, but if you realize it just happened to you, you can suicide yourself to restart the round, but you've only got 5 lives (you can get more by accumulating points). You can also skip a round, up to two times, and there's a password system. Harder sequels were made, and a remake of the first game titled Pyramid Magic Special was released, featuring even harder puzzles (I'm not even sure how to pass the first round in that one). Of course, the round featured in this video is the easiest, and it is probably intended as a tutorial to show some of the basic gameplay. It gets harder really fast, and you know what? There's 100 rounds! As far as puzzle games go, if you want to challenge yourself, the Pyramid Magic series is a must.
