INITIATE SCAAAAN. Prepare for the video that dethrons my Max Payne 2's playthrough in its sheer length by a lot.

========
I'm guilty of: original Quake 2's playthrough being quite horrid to look at
The punishment: re-doing the entire playthrough with, preferably, using the Blaster and the equipment allowed in rules only
========

Timemarks:
00:13 - Intro and Unit 1
40:03 - Unit 2
1:20:41 - Unit 3
2:29:12 - Unit 4
3:18:01 - Unit 5
3:36:46 - Unit 6
4:50:32 - Unit 7
4:55:28 - Unit 8
5:57:13 - Unit 9
6:54:43 - Unit 10 and Outro

This is something I've wanted to do for a while - a re-recording of one of my earlier public playthroughs. Because of how demanding the general society is, however, I had to go out of my way and do something different.

Hence - the Blaster Run.

The rules:
- I do the entire game in Yamagi source port with 3.24 unofficial patch because it's as close as it can be to vanilla Quake 2 and it fixes some script issues with marking secrets; it also allows you to set up the HUD size and to shuffle music which are really handy QoL features
- Hard-plus/Nightmare difficulty
- Preferably, using only the Blaster out of weapons; I can pick up other weapons and even wield them for a bit, but shooting them is prohibited (lore-wise it is done by considering all weapons biometrically-codelocked by copyrighters back on Earth with the flimsy explanation "We can't give any additional firepower to Stroggs", causing Bitterman to scream curses at combat suppliers for being greedy moneyhumpers and forcing him to rely on his personal blaster "Morgana")
- If I died during the recording, I start the level from the very beginning, no quick saves; all footage where I die is cut from the final video
- I can use environmental power-ups in situations where they're kinda required (invulnerability in acid or lava pools, environment suit and rebreather otherwise); only during these times I can use them offensively
- No Quad Damages, no matter how bad the situation is
- Energy Shield: I chose to not activate it at all, but, honestly, it was a mistake
- I can backtrack levels for health and armor (it was required for me to do so in order to finish Research Lab and Unit 9 levels)
- I must make an attempt to find at least one secret per level that has them (I managed to do a 100% secrets run, funnily enough, including the "rocket jump" secret without using the explosives)
- Speed Ups: if I find an enemy or two quite boring to look at (meaty and not particularly dangerous enemies like Tanks or Brains) or I destroy corpses because of Medics being on the level, I can use 4x Speed Ups so that you don't have to sit through; otherwise I'm not using them
- Footage cut: in situations where I have to backtrack on some levels and that takes a lot of time, I can cut the footage of my exploration; all combat footage, however, has to be left in
- After I get all goals on the level done, if it is still going on, then I have to use music from N64 version of Quake 2

Deaths during the recording:
- Warehouse: 1 (got careless)
- Grid Control: 1 (got careless)
- Upper Mines: 2 (shotgunners trap)
- Drilling Area: 2 (ambushed)
- Processing Plant: 1 (got careless)
- Reactor: 1 (extreme amounts of Gladiators)
- Toxic Waste Dump, 2nd half: 1 (barricades himpering movement)
- Recycling Center 1: 5 (horrendous entry point with lots of shotgunners)
- Big Gun: 1 (guess for what reason)
- Comm Satellite: 1 (didn't calculate the jump and fell right into the deathdrop)
- Research Lab: 11 (level design plus extreme amounts of "dogs")
- Outlands: 1 (got blown up by a rocket turret)
- Outer Courts: 1 (shotgunners plus machinegunners)
- Lower Palace: 1 (shotgunners)

The entire post-goal music list and Speed Ups are, as mentioned above, the OST of N64's version of Quake 2.
You can find all of it on Aubrey Hodges's Bandcamp.

What about doing the mission packs blaster-only:
- The Reckoning: quite unlikely, but I guess if I have the will to do so, I could do it someday; some secrets will be unavailable, preventing me from doing a 100% secrets run
- Ground Zero: haha, you're a funny one (for real, though - I had a lot of problems recording it with regular weaponry, it would be a pure masochism to record it with the blaster considering enormous amounts of turrets, teleport-spamming Medics and jumping spiders)

With all said, I hope it's watchable for you, Watchers and Commenters.
((Copyrighters, however... ah, let's not get into that territory, they don't deserve anything))

PS: if you find the footage muddy and/or laggy - thank both Shadowplay, HandBrake and YT for that, I had to lower the quality because otherwise I'd run out of 128 GB limit for YT
