(Jared sits in quite a bad mood in one of community apartments in human-controlled settlement. The HDD works, but with problems - he decided to not replace it as this disc has grown on him)
Welp... that sucks.
(Jared looks at the window and decides that he shouldn't sleep just yet. He takes the HDD with him and goes on a walk in shabby-looking industrial zone)
I kinda did know that's going to happen eventually... Secretly hoped it wouldn't.
(Jared looks under the bridge and notices lots of trash)
Pulling that move was a mistake after all... What I'm gonna do now...
(His stare at trash is filled with grim thoughts about his future)
Alright, I need to accept my own tomorrow then...
The HDD was checked for every single detail. My notebook was examined like it was an antique artefact. Interrogations for several weeks. Everything was needed to pinpoint what the Dimensional Viewer is.
Kelly was there. Reading all the stuff I've experienced with her - she didn't even scream at me... Honestly, what I saw is a rather somber look. Something I usually had after being a coward. Regrets of actions.
Maybe I was wrong about Kelly. A corrupt one she is, yes, but maybe not that bad after all.
Essentuki's deal was the final nail in the coffin. Even despite me telling John and the Commander about not wanting to bother them (and both of them understanding that), the entire new XCOM personnel was furious about that.
It was unbearable, feeling their boiling fury under their skins.
A lot better to take the punch head-on rather than to suffer under the pressure for guilt which is justified.

What a short-sighted move that was, to humiliate Kelly. I would have got off the hook if not for the Dimensional Viewer.
But I didn't. After two weeks since the end of interrogations, I couldn't take it anymore.

(Jared takes out his XCOM insignia from the depths of his winter coat)
Battled everything, only to get into the hornet's nest. I don't have that much knowledge besides in weapon category. Even my technical skills are guns-oriented.
Working with the whiners as a janitor is the only way to go.

At least it's helpful that I can still contact John, the Commander... Kelly even, for what strange reason it is.

(Jared gets a phone call from an unknown number. He hesistates for a bit, but decides to answer it.
It was a prank call)
Bah, citizens of ADVENT. Guess some things never change.
(Looking at the horizon again, Jared gets even more sad)
That teleporting freak did sent my HDD to hack of a writer. That had a lot better writing skills than mine. What I could use for retirement is gone - he authored my own stories under his pen and copyrighted it, receiving lots of supplies in return.
Copyrighters are still going strong.
I'm afraid to think what he could do to others... Ferguson, Salmon, Zoe, even Nic...
(Jared suddenly remembers - he did hear of an accident revolving around Salmon several weeks ago. His car was destroyed in a racing match, but he survived - barely.
Crippled on both legs, he would undergo the treatment, but wouldn't participate that well any longer. Despite that, he took the matter into his own hands - literally. Just five days after the incident, Salmon got back - legs still being whacked, but now using the hands to both control and boost the temporary car, showing his resolve)
Salmon... dammit, you're braver than me.
(Jared suddenly gets a shot in his head. But not a physical, but an emotional one)
Even despite the difficulty, he didn't give up. Even in the face of impending death he stood strong.
What I'm going to do - just wait until this shit kills us all?
(Jared looks at the trash)
Screw that. I'm not some lofty janitor. I might be stupid, cowardly and unlucky, but it's me who survived two alien wars and won. And it's all thanks to everyone on my journey.
No matter what you're gonna do, the Dimensional Viewer, I'll face you with valor. And I bet my own life that you'll choke down on your own arrogance. For everyone in danger, for everyone I know...
