Quake II Remaster - PSX Jam 1 Playthrough (Hard Difficulty)
Fifth Map-Center Q2 Map Jam: A new set of 11 maps, this time build on and styled after Quake II PSX by Paril, who also worked on the Q2 Remaster itself (that mod itself might as well act as an unofficial Update 2 tbh, given the bugfixes it also provides for the core game). Hub's made by Shartuterie.
I played the PSX mod on my own time and I enjoyed myself, aside from a crash in the middle of the campaign (something about the flares not liking the Vulkan renderer), so for this mapset, I had to switch the renderer to D3D11 so it wouldn't crash (though it still did after beating it). The updates to the Arachnid and Guardian are terrifying, both are actual threats now with their new behaviors to keep them on par with the updated core roster.
Also, Map-Center, if you've released this as its own mod instead of an addon, why not have a universal Moddb page for all mapsets respectively? One page for the Q1 stuff and one page for Q2 stuff, then making articles about releases. Just a thought. Also, maybe a BSky account, John Map-Center, por favor.

Sub Node (Shartuterie):
A solid, short map.
Operation Unfleshant (Nicco):
A two-parter map, taking place outside and inside a facility. Nice reference to MGS1 with the entrance. Well designed encounters aside from the cramped arena at the end of the second part with the Arachnid. Good stuff.
Forseen Ambush (MVE):
A solid, short map².
Mancubus (Marcos):
Oh yeah, it's slaughtermap/Serious Sam time. The main arena up the elevator is no slouch when it comes to breaking your teeth, even with that secret invul with the "Marcus Climbable Flag Secret (patent pending)." The jumpcut at 46:02 is me playing the map from a quicksave after finishing my playthrough to find the other switches for the secret arena and it's a mean bugger, save that extra quad for it. Good challenging map.
Into The Stroggtrix (Konig):
You know how when people use fireblu in Doom everywhere, that it decimates bitrates? This is that and also being a bit of an eyesore for me. It is unique, I'll give it that and the Mini-Super Tanks were cute, but I have to point out that the first one wasn't exactly well communicated, because the passable barrier looked just like the impassable barriers, so I bumbled around for a bit. Maybe if there was a text saying something about being able to pass through after dealing with the enemies that spawned in.
Absalom's Playpen (Jerry):
A solid, short map³.
Forgotten Rat Hole (ish):
This map is quite a challenge, because it starves you on resources, you don't get a lot of ammo for your weapons and the health is also quite scarce, while having to face mostly higher tier enemies. Solid stuff.
Geothermal (IcoShee):
This almost feels like it would fit into the PSX version seamlessly with some cuts to the more complex geometry, it's pretty good. The final battle in the generator room doesn't want you rushing it, stay behind cover and picking off enemies one by one, or else you'll get overwhelmed in no time.
Warp Command (Em3raldTig3r):
Good map, though that room which you get teleported to on the first and last teleporter use can sod off, crampage and not exactly cover friendly. P.S: What's up with that door leading to the cargo lift disappearing for a few frames?
Bad Water (Detro Hogga):
Pretty good map, based music choice. Had to cut out a few unpaused minutes around the 02:23:00 mark, as I needed to deal with some family matters.
Substance Abuse (Chnucki Erdbeer):
This one has a lot of voice acting and is a bit more comedic compared to other maps. Pretty good.
Guardian's Revenge (Konig):
I didn't expect it to be a two-phased battle, first thought was "The Guardian is already present, why are you using a Tank Commander?", then it pulls the rug from under my feet and brings in the second phase. It also starves you off ammo, you will have to finish it off with the blaster and make sure to use the adrenalines wisely.
