NOTE: My Replacement computer is not that good, so there may be some visual glitches in the vid that were not in the original games.

I've decided that for my Quake III and Unreal Tournament comparisons between the PS2 and DC versions, I'm going to do it on a map by map basis for the comparable maps. I am running S-Video through the VGA box on the DC, and through an S-Video wire on the PS2 to make these comparisons. I am also using the default system controllers seeing as the PS2 version doesn't support a mouse, and I don't own a DC mouse.

I have an older comparison using composite cables, and to sum up my take. PS2 version seems to have better lighting and effects, and better control with the controller. It also runs a lot better for split screen action. It's load times are much longer than the DC version taking at least a minute to load the maps. The PS2 version also allows two more bots per game than the DC version (6 player games as opposed to four player games)

The DC version has better textures, and though the control is worse on the default DC controller, it supports the use of the DC keyboard and mouse. It loses a ton of detail in split screen multilayer, but there is a way to still play it online. Some people still run servers, but it's a rather involved process to get it online. It also looks great running it on a monitor with the VGA box.

Overall, it mostly depends on what you're looking for. If you want some split screen Quake III action, go with the PS2 version if you can stand the load times. Granted, neither the DC version or the PS2 version is the best game for split screen on either system. If you're a lone player, and just want to chill out with some one-player bot match from your livingroom, but want to use a KB/mouse combo, go with the DC version. If you want online play, I guess you can try to get a game going on the DC version, but the PC version is much easier for online play. There's even Quake Live which is free to play.

Back in the day, the online play would easily put the DC version on top though. However, if you're looking for the best split screen FPS gameplay on the DC, go with Unreal Tournament on the DC instead.

NOTE: if you want the music from the DC version, it is on the game disk, and you can play it in a CD player, or just rip it to your hard drive. The PS2 version doesn not allow you to do that though.
