25:39 - Memory Leak in action, easy to reproduce
This patch is supposed to add “processing optimizations” to improve performance, and make the game more stable, while also adding fine-tune adjustments to AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR).
But in this patch I’m also experiencing serious Memory Leak issues, that I hadn’t seen since the game released. When the game launched, if we adjusted certain settings while in game, we could get stuck in a low performance state caused by a memory leak in the game, and we had to leave the game to the main menu, and change settings there.
That issue was resolved, at least for me, in the previous patch but, unfortunately, it seems the very same issue is back for this August 10th update, which is a shame.
I can perfectly reproduce the issue by just switching the internal Resolution Scale in the game (the Image Quality setting) and, as we can see in the video, the System RAM allocation reported by Rivatuner shoots up even to my maximum available, 16 GB, at times. The game can then get stuck at lower FPS than expected and, sometimes, the only way to fix it is to restart the game.
When it comes to performance differences compared to the previous patch from July, there are barely any, only at 1080p resolution and with Raytracing disabled we can see a small difference, but when things get GPU bound, which is easy to achieve (enabling RT, increasing resolution), the differences are basically non-existent.
All in all, the game performs well enough except when we make the mistake of changing some settings in game, then the memory leaks may happen, and they need to fix this, it was better in the previous update, from my experience.
As usual, I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you next time : )
