Resident Evil Village PC - Official DRM Stutter Fix Patch | Ryzen 5 3600 & RTX 3060 Ti | FSR Testing
#ResidentEvilVillage #RTX3060Ti #Ryzen3600
Resident Evil Village PC DRM stutter fix update tested on R5 3600 and Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti.
Greetings, everyone.
At last, Capcom realized, for no apparent reason, that RE Village needed an update on the PC. No, actually it was because a whole lot of people, including Digital Foundry, among others, dedicated their precious time to test the cracked version of the game and notice that it didn’t suffer serious frame-time spikes and slow-downs when facing Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters, for example, or stuttering when killing enemies.
There are no patch notes yet on the Steam hub for the game…so here’s an official Resident Evil tweet with the changes: https://twitter.com/RE_Games/status/1417288163610005506?s=20

Well, well, Capcom-San, what do we have here? Oh yeah, the first patch for RE Village in like three months, how gracious of you, yes it was totally planned to come out this soon, I’m sure :)
Anyway, this patch also introduces AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, “FSR” from now on, which is basically AMD’s way of telling people who have never tweaked their video games that there’s a way to gain more FPS, without actually telling them how it’s happening.
In short, it’s just image upscaling, with some sharpening, and a spatial based algorithm that…only takes information from a single frame at lower resolution. That’s it, that’s FSR, and you’re kidding yourself if you thought it was something else.
In its current state, FSR 1.0 is pretty much useless to me, as the Ultra Quality preset has an internal factor of 1.3x, so it’s like using 77% Resolution Scale, and it does not tap into Temporal Anti-Aliasing at all, so it does not provide any of the many benefits TAA offers, like the main one being temporal stabilization of moving assets, or stuff that is changing at a decent frequency, like…most of the stuff in modern games nowadays.
Lower FSR presets add too much blur to the image, in my opinion, so if you feel compelled to give FSR a go, right now, in RE Village at least, just go with Ultra Quality FSR because anything lower is already too noticeable, in my opinion.
The relatively small performance gains, depending on the resolution, aren’t really worth it losing that much image clarity, and also losing the benefits of combining FXAA and TAA, and that’s how it is.
As for the stuttering fix part of the update, regarding Capcom’s terrible DRM implementation (and that’s their own DRM, not Denuvo, which is also in the game, doing its…thing), it’s been fixed, I would say, and now the game won’t stutter any longer when facing any of the Dimitrescu Daughters up close, or killing enemies.
I’m disappointed it took several big videos and other media talking about how a CRACKED .exe fixed stuff, for Capcom to pay attention; Yes they were to, eventually, going to update RE Village on PC, because AMD announced it was going to have FSR implemented, but when? We only know it happened NOW, because of all the attention due to Capcom’s own DRM having been bypassed by a crack, and that’s embarrassing.
Anyway, I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you in the next one : )
