This game is clearly aimed to that crowd of people who’ve been longing for a new game but, it is also unique in its own way; as a person who never got too much into the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, I find Chernobylite more interesting and with way less annoyances compared to those other games, the gunplay mechanics being among those.
The game also added DLSS and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution quite recently, so I have of course tested that, mainly DLSS, but I’m afraid that in this game DLSS 2.1 produces some shimmering / blurry artifacts, and it only happens on certain smaller pieces of vegetation, where small tiny shadows from leaves are casted.
The whole image around these pieces of vegetation gets quite fuzzy looking and the shadows get more shimmery than usual when upscaling and reconstructing the image.
I am not sure it is DLSS at fault here, completely at least, because FSR does have a similar issue, and regular upscaling while it can also produce this issue, it’s not as pronounced.
Otherwise, DLSS especially when set to Quality, obviously improves the temporal stabilization of the overall image and all the good stuff DLSS normally does, except what I said about those particular spots. If you can live with that visual annoyance, only at certain places…use DLSS, otherwise the safest choice is to simply use the internal Resolution Scale and set it to a value that improves the image enough for your liking, and provides at least 60 FPS.
The game is not that hard to run at 60 FPS, fortunately, and the various benchmark runs I did clearly show this, so I don’t think not being able to use DLSS, due to possible visual issues, is a deal breaker, it’s fine really, now…if the game also had Raytracing, that would probably be a different story, but it doesn’t have it.
So far I’m quite satisfied with this game, it’s not an expensive game at all and looks really good due to the use of photogrammetry I guess, it really captures that Chernobyl vibe and adds some horror and survival stuff to the mix, also with decent characters and narrative.
As usual, I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you next time : )
