Ys IX: Monstrum Nox PC release version tested on Ryzen 5 3600 and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.
Greetings, everyone.
Today we’re testing the release version of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, even though I already made a video for the Demo version, that one was quite limited since it was just a couple dungeon areas.
My current PC specs:
-CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (stock settings) with Coolermaster Hyper 212 Black RGB (w/2 fans, push-pull).
-Mobo: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC.
-GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC and WHQL driver 471.11.
-RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT (2x8GB) CL16 DDR4@3200 Mhz.
-Storage: PNY XLR8 CS3030 1TB NVMe (O.S. and game), Samsung 750 EVO 500 GB.
-Case: Fractal Design Meshify S2 (Intake: 2x140 Front, 1x120 Lower Front - Exhaust: 1x140 Rear, 1x120 Top/VRM Area).
-PSU: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold.
-O.S: Windows 10 Pro 64bit (v.20H1).
-Monitor: AOC AGON AG251FG 1080p-240Hz.

Edit (July 25th PATCH): there's a new patch, to version 1.0.6, notes here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1351630/view/2959412581552145771. It adds "Lunatic" view distance setting, for very top of the line systems, might greatly help with the pop-in that was even present at Ultra distance, wasn't too bad, but it was there. Keep in mind that "Lunatic" draw distance setting may impact performance especially in Balduq, for sure.

The point of making yet another Ys 9 video is simple, now I can have access to the city of Balduq, which is known for its quite demanding system requirements (as known from the console versions of the game).
We don’t really have to travel too far from the early stages of the game to find a very demanding area within the already quite demanding city, and that’s the Agricultural District, because it does have a lot of ground foliage, so effects like HBAO+, PCSS shadows and Shadow Filtering quality, etc., do stack on all that foliage and their shadows, and make the GPU struggle a bit more than usual.
That said, and we already knew Ys IX was going to be quite more demanding than the previous game, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, Ys IX on PC is the best possible version out there, as the amount of optimization work done to it has been incredible, as expected from Durante and the PH3 studio. It is a pleasure to, once again, enjoy on day one another excellent port by these folks, and even more so if it’s a Falcom game: it’s a winning combination.
Not much else to add apart from what I mentioned in my previous video from the Demo: this is a great port, runs well, it has lots of high quality settings to tweak and to make the game look better than the console versions.
