Although I personally enjoyed Mandate of Heaven just a little bit more, there's no denying that For Blood & Honor probably is the most well-rounded and mechanically refined of the modern Might & Magic games, and its inclusion in the ever-expanding GOG catalogue is great news indeed.

MM7 is based on the exact same engine as its predecessor, but all sorts of major and minor tweaks have been made to the class and skill system (which is the what this kind of "spreadsheet-style RPG" is truly all about). As a result the overall game balance is substantially improved, but some of the new class restrictions mean that the early parts of MM7 can be a bit slow and tedious. Once the game gets into gear, however, the combat and exploration is at least as fun as in the earlier installment in the series.

Perhaps what's most immediately striking about MM7 are the somber autumnal environments, which are a definite departure from the more sunny, colorful and varied game world of MM6, which I ultimately prefer. But as always with the NWC titles from this period the soundtrack is great and it's nice to see it included as a bonus download with the GOG purchase.
