Dragon Age 2 is out, and it's dramatic in the original sense of the word. For all his (or her) heroic qualities, Hawke is perhaps the most grounded protagonist in Bioware's ludography, and starts off his adventures with a very personal quest to provide what's left of his family with some degree of stability after the turmoil caused by the Blight. The game itself appears to be more homegrown as well; supposedly ditching the time-honored fantasy convention of globe-trotting in favor of focusing on a single city and telling a multi-threaded narrative over an extended period of time. What is already apparent from the early parts is that the storytelling is generally much more effective, memorable and cinematic than in DA:O (which could get awfully dull and lore-heavy at times), but it of course remains to be seen just how successful this admittedly very interesting and unusual concept for a 40-50 hour RPG turns out.
