Revision of L-1(The Planets, Earth and Solar Sytem) Part -2 Class 6th D.A.V
This video is about Satellites, The moon our nearest companion, phases of moon and other celestial bodies(asteroids, meteroids, comets).
Satellites:- The heavenly bodies that revolve around their respective planet. They do not have their own heat and light. They receive heat and light form the sun. They reflect light which they receive from the Sun. Mercury and Venus have no satellites. Earth has only one natural satellite i.e. moon
As of 2015, Saturn has 53, Jupiter has 50, Uranus has 27, Neptune has 13 and mars has 2.
The moon our nearest companion- Distance of moon from the Earth is near about 3,84,000. The period of rotation and revolution around the Earth is same i.e. 27.3 days. So only one side of the moon is visible to us. The moon has barren land comprising of plains, valleys and craters. The moon does not have atmosphere. So it becomes extremely hot during the day and extremely cold during the night. Day time temperature increases more than 214 degree C.. Night time -184 degree C.
Phases of moon:- Everyday when we see in the night sky we see different shape and size of the moon due to the position of the Earth and moon changes with respect to the Sun.
New Moon:- Amavasya- The moon is fully hidden from our view.
Full moon(Purnima)- When moon is completely visible.
Other celestial bodies.
Asteroids:- They are rocky space objects that orbit our Sun.
Meteoroids:- They are little chunks of rocks and debris in space.
Meteors:- They are also called as shooting stars.
Comets:- These are small bodies with a head and long luminous tail. They are made up of dust and frozen gases. They appear in the sky after a long period. A comet known as Halley's comet appeared in the sky after every 75 years interval.
