During my EarthBound live stream, I used the rewind feature on the Nintendo Switch so that I could engage the Criminal Caterpillar in battle rather than defeat him with a first-strike auto-win. Then he bopped me real bad.

In the Dusty Dunes desert, there's a semi-rare enemy called the Criminal Caterpillar. He's faster than your normal walking speed, so sometimes he is hard to catch, but when you do encounter him you will often get the first strike in battle.

Because of the game's Instant Win mechanic, getting the first strike in combat sometimes means the screen will flash and you will defeat the enemy without even battling him.

But if you approach an enemy from behind, then immediately turn around after touching the enemy but BEFORE the colored swirl appears on the screen, you can force a neutral start (that is, neither party gets the first strike in combat) and this will bypass the Instant Win mechanic, allowing you to engage in an actual battle against the Criminal Caterpillar.

I did this during my live stream and got WRECKED by this tiny psychic bug who spammed PSI Fire (aka PK Fire). It was a fun time for all, including Nicklas D.
