In this Shelfside first impressions video, we give our take on a pre-production copy of Riot at the Round Table by IMP Powered Games, a real-time card game where players race to get three crowns in the royal court of camelot by emptying their hands during rounds. On each turn, there is one defender, and everyone else is the attacker. To beat cards, the defender must overcome cards by placing a card of the same suit and higher number, but the changing trump suit will always beat all other suits. There are arsenal cards which utilize the take that mechanic, as well as hand management in this medieval card game. It is based off the of the popular Russian game Durak, which is played with standard playing cards.

Is Riot at the round table a worthwhile card game to back on kickstarter that is as much of a riot as other real-time games like Throw Throw Burrito? Stay tuned as we tackle all of the angles of this arthurian-themed game.

DISCLAIMER: We here at Shelfside were sent this pre-production copy before the kickstarter launch, but unfortunately the shelter-in-place order happened soon afterwards. As such, we were not able to play the game in person, so our thoughts are based off of discussion with Quirky Quint and playtesting multiple times on TableTop Simulator.
