The Quiet Year ft. Quirky Quint! ▸ Shelfside Plays
19Shelfside plays the Quiet Year, but due to some narrative elements we're gonna call this 'The Not So Quiet Year'.
Inspired by Shut Up and Sit Down, we decided to bring out the role-playing storytelling game: The Quiet Year, where players take turns explaining a post-apocalyptic world (think zombie movie like the Walking Dead) and drawing on a shared map. Players will craft a narrative of a colony through the 4 seasons of the year, with the game ending in Winter. On each turn, players will draw a card, answer a question, and then draw on the map, creating long-term projects as needed. Created by Buried Without Ceremony, the Quiet Year can be played with a deck of playing cards and a sheet of paper, and this was very easy for us to port over to Tabletop Simulator and voice over discord.
For this playthrough, we used one of the preset maps, called 'the Subway' to make setup a little faster. We were joined by Jake over at Quirky Quint, and of course of resident Root Fanatic Jason. But soon it will be shown that this Quiet Year is literally not so quiet as some loud sounds start emerging from a very interesting storytelling device: the pump action shotgun.
If you're into roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons (Dnd) or Pathfinder, the Quiet Year is a great option to take a look at, and requires almost no setup with characters and stat sheets!
