Risen 2 is out now, and it plays a lot like the original game (and, by extension, is also very similar to Gothic 3). Combat is definitely faster and more fluid but sadly also much less demanding; with the major addition of guns as well as a new emphasis on tackling challenges together with one of several NPC companions. From what I've read, Risen 2 includes many smaller islands to explore instead of one giant sprawling game world, so one thing that's going to be interesting to see is just how much variety there actually is in terms of environments, enemy types and quests.
