Diablo III Open Beta (2012) (PC) (Blizzard Entertainment)
0So the Diablo III beta is open for the public at large right now, and shockingly enough the game involves a lot of clicking on stuff. Truth be told I'm a bit underwhelmed by what I've seen so far, and Blizzard's unfortunate decisions regarding the always online requirement and the in-game Auction houses have already done much to decrease my general pre-release enthusiasm for the next Diablo.
More importantly, though, in this day and age there might actually be other genre entries out there which are more interesting than a new installment in Blizzard's famous ARPG series. Diablo 3 will undoubtedly feature the usual polish and attention to detail which characterize all this developer's titles, but the game probably won't have the incredibly deep character development of Grim Dawn nor the emergent complexity of Din's Curse or even the cozy charm of Torchlight 2. Diablo 3 is "just" another Diablo, and at this point I'm wondering if even this famously conservative genre has finally moved on from where it was back when Blizzard dominated the scene.
