Late into the Genesis' life Sega attempted to introduce the world to a brand new mascot hero, Ristar. Designed by Yuji Uekawa who would later become the main character designer for the Sonic Series, Ristar actually began life back in 1990 as a rabbit named Feels with long ears that could stretch and grab things. If that sounds familiar, it's because Feels would evolve into Sonic the Hedgehog. Somehow the original Feels concept lived on behind the scenes and in 1995 Ristar hit the scene.

An incredibly pretty Genesis game with lots of vibrant colors and jamming tunes, Ristar is a platformer where the gimmick is that you have stretchy arms which you can use to attack or grab onto to things. Spinning handles let you build up speed to shoot off like a shooting star. This one is really well done but 95 is too late to establish a hot new 2D platform mascot and Ristar was sadly forgotten, only showing up to wave a flag in Sega and Sonic All-stars Racing.
