The plan is simple. Taking part in the Backpacker Rally challenge gave me pleasant memories of playing Stalker, so we're dusting off Achievement Astrid and going for the last achievement still on the board: survive 500 days. I haven't touched this file for months, so as we pursue that goal we'll be searching out all the unique recipes, making them, and finding the new prepper caches. I'm a task-oriented player, so this is all to help keep me focused while chasing a long-term goal.

Well, back to the wolf meat mines. We're setting into something of a pattern here in Forlorn Muskeg -- slay doggos, harvest doggos, cook meat, seek more doggos to slay. There's always time to pause for a Hadrian moment, though (54:00). The latest extended grilling session starts at 1:18:00 as Astrid turns all that wolf meat and some venison into sustenance. Unfortunately, all that killing fails to sate her bloodlust, so Astrid takes off in pursuit of some of the region's most dangerous game -- Kool-Aid Bear (hunt starts 2:33:30). Rather than resort to the usual flare gun, though, she tries sniping the bear from afar, with mixed results. The top of the rail cars at the Poacher's Camp provide safety, and while Astrid only lands a single shot with the bow it was enough to start the bleeding-out process that brings the hunt to an abrupt halt (2:53:20). As per Long Dark tradition, the game gets in the way of harvesting the bear, dropping an aurora on Astrid that night and a blizzard the next day.
