Rogue Supermassive Black Hole Discovered in Galaxy
The discovery of AT2024tvd revealed a wandering supermassive black hole located 600 million light-years from Earth. This black hole devoured a star, generating a tidal disruption event (TDE), which was captured by the Hubble telescope.
The most surprising thing is that it is outside the center of the galaxy, something unusual for supermassive black holes.
Later observations revealed that there are two black holes in the same galaxy: a smaller one, with 1 million times the mass of the Sun, and another one hundred times more massive.
The smaller black hole is believed to have been ejected from the galactic center after a galactic merger. This discovery opens new possibilities for research into wandering black holes, which may be wandering the universe without a fixed location.
