Rubeus J is a violent yokai bad guy but his inspiration actually comes from a just as violent good guy. He is inspired from the manga character Kenshiro from Fist of the north star who is a huge icon of manliness in Japan. Think bruce lee combined with mad max. Fist of the north star broke many conventions and anime tropes for its time (80's) and was the first to bring manly tears to the entertainment world. It is a cultural icon in Japan and has even spawned tons of memes around its anime.
