I use FireBrandX's "Smooth (FBX)" as the game's color palette. This and other excellent palettes can be downloaded from the FireBrandX website at – [http://www.firebrandx.com/nespalette.html].
*– VIDEO INTRODUCTION –*
This playthrough shows:
• a no-death run;
• the location of every item;
• the best equipment.
The Hero's stats are based on his name. In this playthrough, I choose the name "Hassan", which favors long-term growth in Strength and Maximum HP. More information and a tool to determine the effect of the Hero's name on his stats can be found at the Gamer Corner Guides – [https://guides.gamercorner.net/dw/name-stats/].
And Hassan is, of course, the Japanese name of Carver from _Dragon Quest VI (ドラゴンクエストVI)!_
*– GAME PATCH(ES) –*
Dragon Quest: Delocalized
Released By: Translation Quest
Patch Version: 1.14
The game is modified with the Dragon Quest: Delocalized hack. This hack allows English speakers the ability to play _Dragon Warrior_ in a form that looks (sprites) and reads (script) like the Japanese version, while still retaining the major improvements from the North American release, such as battery-backed RAM save games (since the Japanese version uses a password save system). It can be downloaded from ROMhacking.net at – [https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4275/].
Doubled
Released By: Psyklax
Patch Version: 1.0
The game is modified with the _Doubled_ hack as well. This hack doubles the amount of experience points and gold the player gets from battles, thus saving time (because _Dragon Warrior_ is a grindfest!). It can also be downloaded from ROMhacking.net at – [https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3830/].
*– GAME OVERVIEW –*
_Dragon Warrior_ for the Nintendo Entertainment System is a Japanese role-playing game (JRPG). It was developed by Chunsoft (now Spike Chunsoft) and published by Nintendo – not Enix (now Square Enix). The game was released in North America in August 1989.
• _Dragon Warrior_ is called _Dragon Quest_ in Japan.
◦ The title of the game was changed in North America – until 2005 – to avoid violating the trademark of the tabletop RPG _DragonQuest._
• In _Dragon Warrior,_ the player controls an unnamed Hero tasked with saving the Kingdom of Alefgard and rescuing Princess Gwaelin (Laura in the Japanese script) from the evil Dragonlord (Dragon King).
◦ This game, and its sequel – _Dragon Warrior II_ – and prequel – _Dragon Warrior III_ – are part of the _Erdrick (Roto) Trilogy_ with a common timeline. The trilogy has several spin-off anime and manga series.
• _Dragon Warrior_ was created by Koichi Nakamura and Yuji Horii. They were inspired by previous role-playing games (RPGs) such as Sir-Tech's _Wizardry_ and Origin Systems's _Ultima_ (both 1981), and Horii's own game _The Portopia Serial Murder Case (ポートピア連続殺人事件, Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken)_ – [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deGXITi1xxw].
◦ Manga artist and _Dragon Ball_ creator Akira Toriyama and his design production studio, Bird Studio, produced the artwork.
◦ Koichi Sugiyama composed the music. The game's synthesized soundtrack has been orchestrated and performed at numerous concerts.
