Despite a healthy dose of ambition, there's always been something oddly haphazard and even downright lazy about Bethesda's games; which is one of the many reason why I've never been able to understand the genuine enthusiasm felt by many gamers for this lumbering giant of the Western computer roleplaying genre. And nowhere was the studios' characteristic inability to make a genuine effort and evolve as a developer more apparent than in their highly questionable decision to turn Black Isle's critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic RPG series into what basically amounted to a total conversion of Elder Scrolls IV - with all the problems of that earlier product still intact and carefully preserved for posterity.

At this point in time, saying that Fallout 3 "Oblivion with guns" may be one of the least original statements one could possibly make about a popular video game, but that doesn't make it any less true. Scarier than Black Metal, indeed...
