Scylla & Charybdis | Perils of the Sea
Monsters of Greek mythology are legendary in how dangerous they are, and a pair of them were the bane of seafarers who braved the Strait of Messina: Scylla and Charybdis from the Odyssey. Scylla was a massive abomination with 6 serpent like heads and necks, as well as an appetite for human flesh. Charybdis was a submerged monster, often depicted as a gigantic whirlpool strong enough to pull down entire ships with ease. These monsters lived on either side of the narrow strait, and any ship that sailed through had to choose whether to be attacked by Scylla or by Charybdis, a deadly gamble either way!
