Seijin Plays Super Mario RPG Armageddon Part 22 : Johnny
3Intro : Super Mario RPG Armageddon is a fanmade hack of Super Mario RPG, by Dark Kefka. Its goal is to make the game more challenging and giving even veterans of the game a run for their money. Not only do monsters get a stat overhaul, but they also get completely new attacks. Additionally, there are countless several difference here and there. Weaponry, magic, items... everything has changed.
This video contains the second half of the Sunken Ship, and the boss battle against Johnny. There isn't much to say about the dungeon. I fought a few random battles on the way, but mostly avoided everything. Mario learned Super Flame (very powerful), and Mallow learned Shocker (OVERPOWERED).
As I fought Johnny, I tried to use the same strategy as in vanilla : killing all of his underlings except one. When you kill all of his underlings in vanilla, he asks Mario for a one-on-one duel, which is automatically accepted (without giving the actual player a real choice), which makes it harder than with a full party, needless to say. But if you keep one alive, that won't happen, and you can kill him normally.
Here, it doesn't work. His underlings can heal him for 9999, and when I realized that, I kept pushing with the same strategy in case it was just random at a low chance or something like that, but I eventually had to force myself to do the one-on-one battle. I really wasn't prepared for that. Once it went down to that, I just spammed Super Flame every turn and the battle was won very quickly.
Back in Seaside Town, I handed the star over to Yaridovich right away. Why? Because if you don't, he goes and "tortures" the real villagers (off screen), and your reward after saving them is not as good. And the story doesn't progress until you hand it over anyway.
I also made a few purchases with my frog coins. Namely, the Defense Up Attack Down accessory, as well as an Experience Booster. I also considered the Earlier Times, but ended up not getting it.
