Sentient is a very tense and unsettling psychological horror experience that takes place in a strange test facility and explores themes of technology and human consciousness.
The full game of Sentient is still very much shrouded in secrecy, but the 20 minute playable teaser is certainly enough to get excited about. It’s a standalone near-photorealistic experience which sees you taking on the role of a test subject and takes place entirely within a small concrete test chamber within a “Sentient Corp” research facility.
You have no idea who you are, why you’re there or even what you are. Your living conditions are hardly humane, but you may not be human (your next door neighbor certainly isn’t anyway). Your only real contact with the outside world comes in the form of a voice which issues commands for you to follow – obey and you’ll be rewarded with cookies, disobey and you may end up being a cookie.
It’s a very disconcerting experience that really gets under your skin makes you feel isolated and powerless. You’re clearly sentient, but the whole experience makes you feel less than human and to your captors you’re clearly little more than a lab rat. Highly recommended.
