Shadow Complex Remastered part 1: Dinner and a movie would've been easier
I've picked up this game twice in the past, but never played more than an hour or so into it. When CorporateGamer jogged my memory last weekend about it, I figured it's high time to finally fix that, as it seemed like a good segue back into metroidvanias after the break I took for Metal Wolf Chaos.
This game has a bunch of neat progression mechanics (most of which we've yet to find), and has convincing-looking 3D environments while still presenting the player with a 2D space - although it can feel quite goofy to be jumping across balconies rather than taking the stairs in the background like a civilized person.
Unfortunately, sometimes the 2.5D nature of enemy positioning rears its ugly head, as I've sometimes found myself frustrated by the game refusing to aim at an enemy in the background even though I'm aiming directly at him along the only axes I have control over.
I have to wonder what kinds of upgrades and challenges await further into the game, since I seem to have already accounted for half of the health upgrades in the game, only 2 hours in.
