Shadowrun [Japanese Version] Playthrough - Part 1
Domo chum for readin' this.
I've been speaking about doing this specific playthrough for years and it actually started as a stream to my friends one day who did not know what Shadowrun was, and I was curious about the Japanese version of the game so I figured I'd pet two doggies in one go. The Japanese version of the game is really rather fascinating as you never saw this kind of translation and commitment back then and heck, even today we do not see this.
As a result of this, the J-Version of the game cartridge is actually 2mb bigger than it's European & American counterparts. I guess it was really pushing to make Shadowrun interesting in the East, and I believe it worked as Japan has some pretty Japan-Exclusive stuff over there, much to my bitter annoyment. There are Shadowrun related stuff over there with manga style artwork for better and worse, rulebooks that primarily tell the current state of Tokyo and Japan in general, and there's a Japan-Only Shadowrun game for the Mega CD and from what I understand is based on those rulebooks.
Shadowrun for the Super Nintendo is one very special game to me, just as the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive version is and both for different albeit similar reasons. Shadowrun is one of those kind of games that helped whom I am and my interests. Without Shadowrun, it's questionable if I'd taken a huge interest into the Cyberpunk genre and started to read various books such as Neuromancer and Mirror Shades among others. Without Shadowrun, I'd probably not jumped up from my chair, pointed at the screen and accused The Matrix by the Wachowskis of plagarism when I first saw it ( I was young ). Shadowrun was also a reason I nagged on my mother constantly to get me a leather jacket ( but she never did, sob ).
The point is that a lot of things in life shape whom we are, and Shadowrun is one of those things for me.
What you need to know about this version is that the controls are primarily different.
L - Does Nothing
R - Aim Mode / Fire Gun
Y - Cast Spell
B - Cancel
A - Accept / Fire Gun / Menu Options ( Talk, Examine, Open, etc )
X - Hand Selector
Start - Character Sheet
Select - Party Status
So when you open doors for example, you need to first hit X, move over to the door, then hit A and select Open. Unlike EU/US where this is all done with one button.
This is a very long playthrough of the game, and apart from one part in the game where I lost some footage. I will let you know where since in that part, I was trying to make a run for it but apparently forgot too record it. Apart from that, I got everything in the game except a few things that will come after as bonus material.
The things that are left to do that I know, is left to do, will be done once I have uploaded all the parts.
In conclusion, I hope you enjoy this video, and the others to come.
