In this video I'm just showing some simple green screen effects which are quite funny :)
Green screen or chromakey is the effect where you key out, or make transparent or invisible, a certain shade of green in your shot. Where this keyed green chroma was, there is now an alpha channel and mask. We can now insert other video or visual content in the blank space left by the chromakeying or green screening.
You can actually use any colour for your key or even luminance. However, the reason why green is used or more specifically a certain frequency of green. Is because it tends to not be a colour that's in anything that your shooting and so you will stand a better chance of not keying out stuff in the frame that you need. There's also technical reasons for using green but that's beyond the scope of this simple video.
In my examples I have just used the bog standard chromakey function of my NLE and haven't really gone to town on it. I'm not really good with such things but for others who are, the examples in this video may be useful to give them some ideas that they can expand on.
Between the simple inserts of other video and visual elements into the alpha matt of the chromakey, to trying out compositing of foreground and background clean plate shots. You can see that you can get very creative with green screen and chromakey effect.
What I have done here is very simple and just takes a bit of time and patience. For the best part the green screen effects that I've done all require the video camera to be locked off on the tripod. Not much movement in the frame or at least not much movement that would interfere with the keyed area and also consistent light that does not change.
Let me know what you think of this video and if you'd like me to do a video on how to do green screen or how to do chroma keying. Maybe even how does green screen work or how does chroma keying work Or let me know if you'd be interested in how I went about doing the green screen effects shots in this video.
