Skate or Die! (Commodore 64) - Title Theme (Famicom Disk System 2A03+2C33 Cover)
I've been wanting to do this one for months, and it's finally happened! ^w^
Rob Hubbard is one of many amazing people who worked with the legendary SID chip used in the Commodore 64 back in the day, making some of the greatest chiptune arrangements and songs to bless the human ear. The theme song he composed for Electronic Arts' 1987 skateboarding classic Skate or Die! was absolutely groundbreaking for its use of sampled guitar and keyboard power chords through a bug in the SID (more specifically the MOS 6581 version of the SID), and it might just be his musical magnum opus (either that or the music he did for Monty on the Run (1985)). If you've been following my channel since before the pandemic, you might remember I did a sloppy YTPMV of this awesome song back in July 2019. Well, my love for this song has not diminished one bit since then, and I'm happy to say that I feel very confident in what I was able to pull off with this Famicom Disk System cover! It certainly was no easy feat, having to make sure each channel of the 2A03 was at just the right volume, and I knew that it couldn't possibly beat the original (obviously that wasn't my intent, but I'd be interested to see someone pull it off), but I'm very happy with how it sounded in the end. ^w^
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this FDS cover, and be sure to stick around for whatever crazy thing I do next! ;D
UPDATE 06-28-2022: I've been meaning to do this for a year, but I've finally set up a system for sharing downloads for my chiptune project files! Here are the downloads for this song: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-WvF3kWL8AcFnPhGd5KCsq21JEoh4V3G?usp=sharing
