Skip Right To Dracula In Level 1 In Castlevania? Not So Fast!
Who doesn't love a good rib? People are likelier to believe something to be true if they want it to be true, and I just fell for something hook, line, and sinker from James Rolfe, aka the Angry Video Game Nerd. He posted a video talking about his favorite video game cheat, and he mentioned that there was a cheat to get right to Dracula in the first Castlevania from the first level. Well, not so fast, I thought it sounded too good to be true, and it ended up being a prank.
Check out the original video here: • SKIP to DRACULA in Castlevania?! (ft. Jame...
James claimed if you pressed Left, Right, Up, and Select at the title screen, once you got passed the mermen in level one and climbed the stairs, you would get right to Dracula. This sounded plausible, but then he continued on with other button presses that would change Dracula's appearance. One would turn him red and he'd move faster. Ok, I could see that. Another button press combo and you'd get Bella Lugosi's Dracula. Ok, now things are getting to be a stretch. Then he mentioned Nicholas Cage's Dracula from Renfield, and Grandpa Munster from the Munsters. These were clearly a joke, but the original had to be true, right? RIGHT?
Sadly, no, it's all a prank from James. There was no way to skip right to Dracula in the original Castlevania; you just needed to armor up Simon Belmont, do the hard work, and get there on your own. There isn't a simple cheat code to get directly to Dracula in the original NES Castlevania.
The game is linear, and the only way to get to the end is by playing through all six levels. There are no level-select codes or passwords for the first game.
The concept of passwords to save your progress and jump to later stages was introduced in the sequel, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and was a common feature in many NES games. However, the original Castlevania required you to beat it in one sitting.
While there are no official cheat codes to skip to the end, there are some well-known tricks and secrets for the original game, such as hidden items and exploits. But if you want to get to the final battle with Dracula, you'll have to earn it by defeating every monster and platforming challenge along the way!
