I'm about 45 hours into Skyrim at this point and have reached level 30 with my Imperial character; a heavy armor-wearing, sword-wielding soldier (with a little bit of Restoration magic as well as a big shield for protection). There is an almost unbelievable amount of content left to discover and I don't know if I'm even halfway done even with the basic stuff I definitely want to do and see in this game before retiring my main character.

Much more importantly, though, for the first time ever in an Elder Scrolls game (with the partial exception of Daggerfall, but that might just be nostalgia talking) I'm actually genuinely interested in exploring the game world, clearing out dungeons and finishing side quests. Skyrim definitely has some of the exact same flaws as earlier games in the series, but the improvements made to the overall formula come off as nothing short of a revelation. Simply put, Bethesda has taken its long-standing obsession with quantity (which I've always found rather meaningless before) and combined it with an attention to detail in environments and quest design which has never been seen in the series before. It seems even the smallest and most insignicant dungeon can be clearly distinguished from all other similar places in the game, and there could be unexpected NPC interactions and scripted events waiting to be discovered by the player even in the most mundane-looking bandit hideout. Also, while the game will definitely benefit from future modding on the PC there's no question that Skyrim is one of the best-looking games out there; with more of the visual quality being a result of solid art design than I thought Bethesda capable of.

45 hours into Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 I was bored to tears and only wanted those games to end as quickly as possible. With Skyrim, it feels like the adventure has just begun...
