Okay, the title isn't completely accurate... it's more like this Sonic fangame is way too ambitious in relation to what the engine (in this case ClickTeam Fusion) can handle, it actually feels like it's almost falling apart. And boy, does it try really really hard to put its best foot forward, at least from a presentation standpoint. It even has hand-drawn animation transitions mid level, the devs really didn't had to go this hard for just a simple 2D boost Sonic fangame made in ClickTeam Fusion/Sonic Worlds Engine.
Because, if you look past the flashy presentation, there isn't really all that much special about Sonic Definitive. Level design feels pretty standard all things considered, with a clear focus on quick-time events and split second decision making and it's a lot more rigid in its design compared to something like Sonic Rush which gives you a lot more leeway in how you approach a level.
Still, I commend the developer for trying and I can throw aside my high brow, pretentious "Sonic game design opinions" sips tea if it can make me smile while playing and I was smiling all the way through and I hope the devs actually finish their fangame.
TL; DR: Sonic Definitive is a fangame held together by sticks, glue and a dream
