In Sonic 06, Knuckles and Rouge are normally supposed to push off the wall they're climbing when jumping off of it, and, provided that they do it before gliding at any point in the stage, this will occur. If they do glide, then the push off will be disabled, instead forcing them to jump upwards instead. This is one of the reasons why you stick to walls so much in 06 (the other being that you can jump into a wall and climb it like other games, but jumping off of the wall still uses the same state for jumping that can attach to a wall with no check to see if just grabbed one).
