In Sonic 06, there's an unused state for hanging off an edge like SA2 and Shadow 05. Several characters, including Sonic, Shadow, Silver, and Amy have animations for hanging off a ledge, and it is a common state, that everyone except for Tails and the Supers have, iirc. Although these characters have it, it was disabled in retail (it replaces the "ottotto"/stumbling state here with a patch by Chara).
The problems with the state are fairly obvious. It will always send the player back to their original hanging location, no matter where in the stage it activates. The state is reset upon losing a life or (from what I tested) swapping characters within a stage.
