Splatoon 3: Ending just below gold in Salmon Run Big Run [41-49-54-xs, 35/1311]
I'm in to the final stretch of Big Run, and have not reached 130 eggs yet. That doesn't seem like enough, so it's one last effort to improve my score. Fog may help, if we get a nice Goldie, by my wielding an Inkbrush probably won't. I may have to concentrate on running eggs. At least I can help out with Stingers quickly! An unlucky panning by a Chum isn't going to help, though, wasting a few valuable seconds. I also get caught out of position, going to help with a Stinger when it's been splatted, and holding on to an egg for far too long. Using a first-wave B-bomb on two more Stingers is a risk, which hopefully pays off, even if I then get clumsily cornered by a Scrapper. To try to make up for it, I run around like a loony as time runs out, trying to dunk eggs. We get over forty, which is a fair start.
The second wave gives me Dapple Dualies, which are nice but lack range. I can make them work, I'm sure. The first eggs are easy, and I sensibly abandon some instead of getting pinched by a Steel Eel. The Eel turns, the eggs are recovered, and the action moves more centrally. Our Stamper is doing some good splatting too, and it feels like eggs are flying in to the basket! My productivity pauses briefly as I focus on the Chum, but the eggs keep coming, and despite a stutter I find one final one to throw basket-wards, to take our tally almost to fifty. That's promising!
A Grizzco Charger for the third wave. Or three of them! If we can control our impulse to just shoot everything, we should be okay. Or maybe that we should just be me. I do well to start with, focussing on Cohocks mostly, and missing Smallfry. Maws are easy, if ink-draining, and Stingers will be tricky. I activate my second B-bomb when two appear next to each other, only to see a Dolphin fly towards them. Sweeping around, I'm grateful for another Stinger to appear, and throw it that way. Back to collecting eggs, and there are loads, and without bosses getting in the way! The Smallfry are more of a problem, being harder to hit and taking just as much ink to splat, but they get cleared with a Wave Breaker, and the final few seconds are left finding more eggs to dunk. We get even more, fifty-four! That is a new record score for me, which I'm happy with. It turns out not to be enough for a gold, but that's difficult to get, and getting close to it is a decent achievement.
We're not finished, not with a Horrorboros inkoming. More Dualies for me, and the Boros flies in a pretty decent pattern to hit around the Spillway. I'm surprised we splat it so quickly, almost as surprised as my neat diversion to get away from the Steel Eel. Doubled scales as a reward is pretty sweet too. Here's looking forward to the next Big Run!
