Spooktober '22 | Youkai Club & Frankenstein destroy me *extreme flashing warning*
0For your entertainment I present you 2 Tose NES games that I tussled with. The first, Youkai Club, was published by Jaleco and only released in Japan in 1987. A standard platformer with some stiff movement and squirrely enemies, Youkai Club sees us control Akira, a boy who has esp powers, who must stop the king apparition of evil and his newly resurrected clan of spirits from taking over the land of mankind. Enemies drop orbs which act as experience, allowing Akira to get more powerful shots and a chance to resurrect. No continues in this bad boy though and only input passwords for the first 3 levels make it a rough ride but I think if I knew the game better and kept leveled up I could maybe finish it.
The 2nd game actually came over to the US courtesy of Bandai. Frankenstein: The Monster Returns features the monster (now just Frankenstein of course) being brought back to life and destroy a nearby village. He also absconds with a girl who we must save. Frankenstein seems to have authority and power over all other sorts of evil creatures such as a medusa, wolfman, and Dracula. Another short one but unfortunately I fell for the trap of continuing with the password system which left me ill equipped for the final encounter. May come back and finish it since its within my grasp.
