Steve's Paddy Wagon
At the WA Van State Title 2022 on the 24th of April, we caught up with Steve for an interview regarding his Paddy Wagon. This XH 1998 Ford Falcon Panel Van was purchased by Steve about 8 years ago in bad condition. The vehicle was an EX-Police Paddy Wagon and I bet it saw a lot of traffic back in the day. Steve also has the documents from Police stating usage.
It took about year and a half to cut all the cut out and replate very thing with his mate who is the welder. Whilst his mate was welding everything, Steve was getting the prep work done and the rust proofing. Steve had to change the XH Panel Van fuel cap system as it would leak around corners which was a floor in the Ford design of these vehicles. Whilst he was doing this, he put a long-range fuel tank in for longer driving time in the vehicle.
He also grabbed a similar model Ford to wreck for parts, so he could repair items without taking the vehicle off the road for long periods. He has done all the interior and installation, plus he had fun doing around the windows. He wishes he had a windowless Panel Van at times, but he got it done. The Panel Van is running on a Barra engine that is standard, but he has no idea if the Police Tricked this up back in the day.
He is also working on a Mark 1 Escort Panel Van that he found about a year ago, but as we know finding a Ford or Chrysler Drifter Panel Van was a search to find. Holden dominated market back in the day with production of their vehicles. It took he time, but he found one worth doing. Steve still has 100 small items to do on the XH Panel Van, but he will continue doing these slowly.
He has enjoyed he day and looking forward to more events like this for the future. Thank you, Steve, for talking to Aussie Garage and we will see you around the traps in your bitchin ride.
