The June 2025 Steam Hardware Survey indicates a significant issue with available storage space among PC gamers, despite a potentially skewed methodology that primarily surveys dedicated users. The data reveals that the largest segment of surveyed gamers, 23.05%, have only 100 GB to 249 GB of free hard drive space. Following closely, 22.43% have between 250 GB and 499 GB free, while a concerning 15.66% possess a mere 10 GB to 99 GB of remaining storage. This trend of limited free space has been consistent across previous months' surveys, including May, April, and March 2025.

Despite over half of surveyed users (52.12%) reportedly having more than 1 TB of total hard drive space, a large portion of these individuals still face critically low free storage. This discrepancy suggests that while many gamers have invested in larger drives, they are quickly filling them up with installed games. For example, popular titles like Baldur's Gate 3, Black Myth: Wukong, and Red Dead Redemption 2 can collectively consume over 400 GB, rapidly depleting available space.

The consistent dominance of the 100-249 GB free space category highlights a common problem: gamers are retaining numerous installed games, leading to digital clutter. This necessitates a regular practice of uninstalling games that are no longer actively played to free up valuable storage. The survey data serves as a reminder for users, including the author, to manage their digital libraries more effectively.

Beyond storage, the June 2025 survey also provided insights into other hardware trends. Operating system choice remained stable with Windows 11 being dominant, and 16 GB of RAM continued to be the most common configuration. In GPU trends, the mobile RTX 4060 surpassed the desktop RTX 3060 in usage, indicating a shift in the popularity of budget-friendly graphics cards among the surveyed Steam user base.
