Street Fighter II (via Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection) playthrough Part 2
What ARE these hit boxes?! Street Fighter II is fondly remembered, but less so for this original game and more for the refined versions that came later. This collection even limits your online play to the "best" version of each game. Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. If you aren't playing one of those, oh darn! And, well, I want to look at the earlier versions. In fact, playing through this makes me want to take a deeper look at the Champion Edition when I get to it. Originally, I was only going to do the four boss characters, but now I want to see if the hit boxes are any different, etc.
Guile was the start of the day and... I don't really like him. At least, not in this. I have played him, of course. His movies are easier to pull off, just being charge moves, and his turtle strategy is fairly newbie friendly. But I was still struggling to get the Flash Kicks to come out when I wanted them to, so some of the characters gave me a lot of trouble.
Ken... is Ryu. Like, exactly Ryu. I am genuinely not sure if there are any differences between them in this original version. And since I already did Ryu, and have had more practice with the other characters, I was able to do a little better this time around. Especially knowing not to try to rely on special moves quite as much if they don't work. Though adjusting my joystick seemed to help some.
Chin Li is the only female fighter in the first roster. So, of course, she's the quick one. And I had a lot of fun with that. One of her special moves, the spinning bird kick, just takes FOREVER to actually come out, making it not really worth using. However, I do love being able to jump around the arena like that and just play keep-away a bit. And the head stops are fun... even if it was a prime example of hit box jank. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
