Suiko Enbu: Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty [PS1] - play as 1st form Chao Gai
This is a play-through using 1st Form Chao Gai in the PS1 version of Suiko Enbu: Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty. Read on below for more information...
Chao Gai is the boss of the game, and he comes in 2 forms. He is a selectable character from the start, but is only available in 2P Battle mode.
I've used alternative methods to select him in 1-player Game Start mode in order to play through the game. Unfortunately, after you defeat the sub-boss Hu Yanzhao (the guy on the horse), the game will go to the loading screen and freeze.
===== About 1st form Chao Gai =====
He is a zombie-like design in Chinese emperor-style attire. He is meant to be an un-dead character, hence his skin tone and transformation of his second form.
As he was made a legitimate playable character in the PS1 version of the game, he has the full 6-button range of basic moves. This is indeed very different to his Arcade version counterpart, where he only had 3 basic moves (he could pull off special moves with the disabled buttons though, and his Fire Wave was done in a different motion). As the arcade version is obviously older, he did not have the Miniature Clones move in that.
===== Additional Information =====
----- Despite being unselectable in 1-player arcade mode, he actually has a proper portrait image on the character select screen.
===== About Suiko Enbu =====
Suiko Enbu is a solid fighting game. The character sprites and animation is good, and the hit detection and hit pause is decent which makes the game enjoyable.
An impressive aspect of this game is the fact that it uses a 6-button move system. Not many games apart from Street Fighter had this back then.
The game's story and characters are inspired by and based on a Chinese classical novel called Water Margin.
