The second boss battle in the game faced at the lowest levels possible. With proper timing, it's feasible to avoid all damage entirely in this battle, as, unlike in the original version of the game, all of Croco's attacks are now blockable. Previously, the bomb throw was unblockable and even resulted in allies dying in battle. You can now block the bomb as well. This doesn't seem to apply to all other attacks that were unblockable in vanilla.
To speed up the fight, I rely on a lucky Flower Essence proc to both recover some FP AND get Mario's physical attack power up for more powerful Jumps in the second half of the battle, where Croco also uses a mushroom to restore himself 60 HP. This lets me conserve my Honey Syrup, not relying on freebie procs for FP restoration.
As a second ally, Mallow is pretty useful. His Thunderbolt is great for being AoE early on (though a timed regular physical from Mario is also semi-AoE in this version), and after levelling up just once he'll also be able to heal with HP Rain. Both of these cost FP that are shared with the rest of the party, in our case Mario, so we should think twice whether we want to add chip damage when much of the mayhem is caused by Mario's Jump.
