Levels:
Mario - lv. 2
Mallow - lv. 3
Mallow levels up and learns HP Rain, so now we can heal without using up items (a feature whose practical application is dubious). This is also the last battle fought without a full party of three, which in the Remake enables the use of triple moves.
Belome is the healthiest boss faced thus far, with a total HP of 500. It's only 20 more than Mack, and lacking mooks makes it an easier battle all around.
Belome likes to employ negative status ailments against us, always targeting specific party members. Mario will invariably fall prey to the crow status from Scarecrow Funk, limiting him to the use of special moves only. As Mario isn't going to use his basic attack anyway, this only wastes Belome's turn.
The same can be said about the boss's other status move, if you can even call it that. When it swallows Mallow (hey, that sounds really nice - swallows Mallow), Mallow loses his exclusive God-given right to... punch the boss for 1 damage? Big loss, I say.
Coins and frog coins can be farmed immediately following this battle. Neat to know, but we probably don't require its exploitation for survival.
