The boss battle as a result of which we acquire our third star. This is also the last battle with the line-up of Mario, Mallow and Geno.
Punchinello may seem like the hardest boss so far, boasting hard-to-block attacks thanks to its bombs assisting it in attacking and the highest HP yet (1,200), but he goes down in less than two minutes because of the hyper-offensive strategy I employ.
Using a Party Energiser is a first in this video series. A freebie proc can lead to us not having to spend another 5 frog coins should we want a copy for an upcoming battle, and we can just restart and do the battle without any item use - the fight can scarcely be called excruciating even with a slower strategy with less investment of resources. With Work Pants on everyone and the attack boost, we dish out some seriously severe damage with plain physical attacks; our specials fail to match the damage output at this stage. Mallow's Thunderbolt does strike the bombs harder, but this comes at the expense of maximising direct damage against the boss and thus isn't worth it.
Averaging 100 damage per attack is impressive enough, but a single triple move will deplete the boss's HP by more than 300 HP. It's important to know that the bombs summoned appear in order from tiniest to the largest - microbombs, bob-ombs and finally mezzo bombs. I admit I'm not that great with timing a perfect block on their attacks, so I let the boss summon the smaller bombs, dealing splash damage to them by attacking normally - another feature of the Remake that makes the original easier - and conserve the triple move, unleashing it only after the mezzo bombs arrive. This essentially allows me to skip the hardest part of the fight entirely.
Punchinello does also have AoE damage in Sand Storm, which lets us attack the party while also inflicting the Fear status. Having our attack halved and damage incurred increased by 50% or so per cent is extremely undesirable, so everyone comes with a Fearless Pin equipped. Seeing the way the boss goes down so quickly, you hardly need the protection at all, you could argue.
