Rematch against Croco. We start the battle after having lost all of our coins, which obviously does not affect the flow of battle in the slightest. Before going into the coal mines in Moleville, not only can you get Geno equipped up-to-date, but you can get an alternative armour in Work Pants for all three characters, giving them +10 attack in the battle at the expense of a little durability. The loss in durability is minor and not noticeable at all if all the blocks are timed right, which isn't too difficult to pull off for either of Croco's attacks.
Work Pants' attack boosts seem to boost Geno's damage output a good bit, while doubling the party's triple move and increasing Mario's and Mallow's damage from like 10 to 40-50. It's ridiculous how potent the boost is at low level.
Some time into the battle (in no time at all, to be exact, seeing how our triple move tears off 170 HP alone), our items are stolen. As long as we continue to block thrown monsters at us, we won't need any healing or revival. I didn't feel like, considering our damage potential, we needed to use any costly attack-up items that cost frog coins (getting more of them from doing Midas River over and over is quite tedious).
tl;dr Work Pants beats Croco 2
And so Croco falls. We're about to face yet another storyline boss in the same dungeon.
