A battle against an iconic character in the Mario universe, which is admittedly pretty easy, what with Birdo only having 777 HP.
The opening has us face Shelly, which has a low HP stat of 500, no defence to speak of, and will not attack on its turn (if it even gets them?). This is a good time to attack with Mario's Lucky Hammer for a chance to avoid gaining experience later on. The resetting for 0 exp is such a nuisance in this game, yet the amount of exp you actually get as a result of boss battles is so minuscule (think 20 exp for an endgame boss) that you begin to wonder why you keep repeating battles over and over to gain less.
Birdo's attacks would, in fact, make her a highly challenging opponent, as they sting really dang hard when not blocked. Blocking her attacks causes allies in Eggbert appear. These only have 10 HP and actually only serve to help us defeat the boss, who is already weak enough, sooner, exploding on defeat.
Though the battle against Birdo was not a tough one in the slightest, navigating the Nimbus Castle is a major pain in the neck when maintaining the lowest level. Luckily, we get out of it now to face Valentina in what is possibly the hardest boss up until that point in the game.
