38Released in 2016 for iOS and 2017 for Android, Super Mario Run was Nintendo’s first big step into mobile gaming, bringing the plumber to smartphones in a polished, side-scrolling auto-runner format. Mario runs automatically, and you tap to jump — that’s it. But despite the simple controls, the game packs in surprisingly precise platforming, clever level design, and plenty of replay value.
The World Tour mode includes 24 levels across 6 classic-style worlds, each with unique challenges and a set of collectible coins that encourage multiple playthroughs alongside a "Special World", a hidden set of extra-hard levels that unlock once you’ve fully completed World Tour with specific requirements.
Additionally, is Toad Rally, where you compete in stylish runs against other players’ ghosts, and Kingdom Builder, letting you spend your winnings to rebuild a customizable Mushroom Kingdom. Later on, Nintendo added Remix 10, a fast-paced mode where you blaze through bite-sized level chunks back-to-back.
The game offers a few levels for free, with a one-time payment unlocking the full experience — a rarity in mobile gaming. While it didn’t reinvent Mario, Super Mario Run brought his signature charm, polish, and tight platforming to the mobile space in a way only Nintendo could. 🍄📱
