Super Metroid Glitch Tutorial: G-Mode (God Mode)
In this tutorial, I review a fascinating glitch referred to as “G-mode,” which stands for “God Mode” or “Grey Mode.” In this bizarre state, the game behaves in some ways as though X-ray scope is activated, yet Samus can move around freely. The game is unable to execute PLMs (post-load modifications) in this state, which allows for all sorts of weirdness. Check out my video to learn more. :)
As I state in the video, I want to thank FrenchLightningJohn for sharing his expertise with me regarding G-mode. He explained to me how to pull off “morph without morph”, immobile vs. mobile G-mode, and the reason why mobile G-mode actually works. If you haven’t, you should check out his channels on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChbwR4hbh66FyDGciYmsvHQ) and on Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/frenchlightningjohn). :) And, of course, thank you to EternisedDragon, who originally discovered G-mode!
Here is a video by FrenchLightningJohn explaining how to utilize G-mode to acquire Ice Beam in “dashless” speedruns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfICHdPRBMM.
Here’s the link to ShinyZeni’s world record RBO Glitched speedrun, in which he acquires Gravity Suit from the save station off of Bubble Mountain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DBaboq0YMs. The glitch itself begins around here: https://youtu.be/-DBaboq0YMs?t=956.
And here’s a link to Sniq’s 100% tool-assisted speedrun (with fixed graphics) in which the “reverse” Lower Norfair and Maridia entrances are utilized: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sy0HrZLRq3k. It is a fascinating run to watch. Because the graphics are “fixed”, the screen actually does scroll in the video. Lower Norfair is here: https://youtu.be/Sy0HrZLRq3k?t=1236. Maridia is here: https://youtu.be/Sy0HrZLRq3k?t=2393.
Thanks so much for watching, everyone, and let me know if you have any questions/comments/feedback. :)
