This video demonstrates a bizarre glitch that I found while messing around in Ceres Station after a Spacetime Beam reset. After watching, I think you’ll understand why I chose to call this the “Ceres Treadmill.” To get yourself set up to perform this glitch, watch my related video, “Super Metroid Glitch - Ceres Ridley HATES Murder Beam” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LVgs8VyVwI), and be sure to read the video description. In this video, I also utilize Murder Beam, just to get Ridley to fly away quickly. Use of the Murder Beam is NOT necessary to perform this glitch.

Once you enter Ceres Ridley’s room, lay a Power Bomb. This will destroy the door on the left of the room. Then, by whatever means you wish, get Ridley to fly away – either hit him with something 100 times, or let your health drop below 30 (this could take a VERY long time if you have multiple energy tanks and/or Gravity or Varia Suit, so I wouldn’t recommend it).

As you may know, when Ceres Ridley flies away, the “gust of wind” will send Samus flying into one of the walls. We’ll be taking advantage of this. Stand on the ledge in front of the door, facing right, as seen in the video. Select your X-ray Scope, and activate it PRIOR to Ridley knocking Samus backwards. Now DE-activate X-ray Scope as soon as possible after Samus hits the door, prior to the screen becoming totally black. Once you’ve transitioned into the previous room, you’ll be on the “Ceres Treadmill”, which occurs because of the unique “knockback” property that Ridley imparts on Samus.

If you don’t activate X-ray Scope at all, Samus will fly backwards much faster through the previous room, bonk into the far left door before it can open, and then the “knockback” property will be removed. That’s boring (well, it’s still kind of funny). If you instead keep X-ray Scope active through the door transition, the game will softlock shortly after you enter the previous room. So, the key is to de-activate X-ray prior to the door transition.

While Samus is “on the treadmill,” so to speak, you can do a bunch of weird things... I demonstrated several of them in the video. I’m sure you all will discover even more! One particularly interesting thing is that you can very easily get a spike suit (or spark suit, or shinespark suit, or yellow suit.... whatever you wanna call it), as you can see at about 2:52 in the video. Do note that the treadmill/knockback effect will end if Samus bonks into any closed door/wall. Good news is, if that happens, you can just go back into Ridley’s room and do it all again.

Enjoy! Please let me know if you have any questions/feedback in the comments below.
